Aarti at Haridwar –
Haridwar, is one of the most
religious town in Uttarakhand. It is said that Bhagirath brought the
Holy Ganga into the earth to this point where his ancestors were burnt
to ashes by the curse of Kapila. There are five sacred bathing spots in
Haridwar. These are Gangadwara, Kankhal, Nila Parvata, Bilwa Theertha
and Kusavarta. The main ghat at Haridwar is Hari-ki-Pauri which is also
the venue of the famous Kumbh Mela. At Hari-ki-Pauri every evening Ganga
Aarti is celebrated with offerings of lamps and flowers.
People arrive here early and
settle down to witness this spectacular sight. Many people from
different states come here especially to witness Maha Aarti. When Aarti
starts, the place seems to be filled with the rhythmic chants of the
mantras and incense.
Lamps of different sizes light
up in the hands of people all along the banks and is a pretty sight to
watch in the darkness after sunset.
